Casa Quepos stands on Calle 2 and Avenida 9, in the center of Quepos, a few steps from the Banco Popular. The central park is about 450 m away, the town's cafés are a 5-minute walk, and guests say the supermarket, the banks and the bus terminal are all close at hand. Manuel Antonio National Park is around 7 km up the road, and a local bus climbs there from town.
It's a simple, family-run place rather than a hotel with services: three basic types of room plus an apartment, each with its own kitchen or kitchenette, and a garden patio to sit in the evening. The hosts speak English and Spanish, help you plan your days and, according to guests, treat you "like family." There's no pool or restaurant listed; what you get is a clean, comfortable base at a fair price.

Quepos is a fishing town and the gateway to Manuel Antonio National Park, one of the most visited in the country. Between the two runs a jungle-covered ridge with hotels and ocean lookouts. Distances are in a straight line from the hotel.

A small park where the rainforest meets the sea: trails under huge trees, sloths, monkeys and calm beaches such as Manuel Antonio and Espadilla Sur. It's closed on Tuesdays; tickets are sold online and there's a daily cap.

The long, open public beach just before the park entrance. It has restaurants, umbrella rentals and surf schools, and it's the best place to watch the sunset. Currents can be strong: swim where there are lifeguards.

A former island joined to the mainland by a strip of sand, covered in forest and ringed by islets. A park trail climbs it, with lookouts over the Pacific.

The area is home to white-faced capuchins, howler monkeys and squirrel monkeys, plus two- and three-toed sloths, raccoons, iguanas and toucans. A naturalist guide with a spotting scope will show you many more animals. Don't feed them.

An estuary of mangrove channels north of Quepos, explored by boat or kayak. Birds, crabs and monkeys are easy to spot, and with luck you'll see caimans.

Quepos' marina, with restaurants, ice cream shops and stores by the water. Catamarans and sportfishing boats leave from here; the area is famous for sailfish.

Direct buses run from San José to Quepos in about 3 to 4 hours, and guests say the bus terminal is close to the guesthouse. A local bus runs frequently from Quepos up the ridge to Manuel Antonio beach.
The Costanera Sur (Route 34) follows the Pacific coast: Jacó (54.8 km) is a little over 1 hour north and Uvita (55.1 km) a little over 1 hour south. The road is paved; drive carefully at night and in the rain. Booking.com doesn't list parking details, so ask the hosts first.
Between Quepos, the Manuel Antonio ridge and the beach there are frequent buses, red official taxis and informal taxis; agree on the fare first if the taxi doesn't use the meter ('la maría'). The currency is the Costa Rican colón; there are ATMs and US dollars are accepted almost everywhere, though change may come in colones.
